C8 Stingray Z51 Paint Correction and Ceramic Coating
A client of ours recently picked up an almost carbon copy C8 Corvette Stingray Z51 to our old C7 Corvette and brought it in from Nolanville to Harker Heights for a paint correction/enhancement and two-year Ceramic Pro Bronze package ceramic coating!
Now you might ask, “Why would anyone have a paint correction/enhancement on a brand-new car?” Many times, cars are scuffed up during shipment, at the dealership, by the detailers working at the dealership, and much, much more.
This particular Corvette had some scuffs which seemed to be from the removal of the protective film they are shipped in. We see this a lot – sometimes this protective film gets stuck, and people are in a rush to unpack a bunch of shipped cars at the dealer, and they scuff up the paint in the process. This helps us from the standpoint of iron and fallout removal (Iron X or similar) and clay bar, but not from a scuff and scratch perspective.
Many times new vehicles are transported in shipping containers and/or railroad systems (without the protective film), in which the iron from the rail/wheels gets flung and stuck in the paint, causing small rust spots as it is exposed to water (you might have seen small rust spots on lighter colored vehicles in the past). Fortunately, the C8 Corvettes are almost all exclusively shipped with a white vinyl protective cover, which does help with that situation. A lot of Teslas are at least partly shipped this way, but we have seen entire trailers filled with completely covered C8 Corvettes.
Wheels-Off PAckage
The client also asked us to remove/debadge the Stingray emblem and Corvette lettering on the back bumper. For this task, we used our steamer to loosen the adhesive (usually 3M VHB double sided automotive tape), placed painter’s tape around the area to avoid scratching, and carefully lifted the emblems. We then used Rapid Remover to loosen and remove the last of the residue.
In addition, we did a wheels-off Ceramic Pro ceramic coating package. For our wheels-off packages, if the vehicle is done in-house (versus having a client just bring us a set of wheels), we also include the caliper coatings with a good layer of Ceramic Pro Wheel and Caliper, which can withstand really high temperatures. All of our packages include Ceramic Pro or SB3 Vortex on the wheel faces, but for the additional charge we remove and detail the entire wheel, ceramic coat the barrel with Ceramic Pro Wheel & Caliper or SB3 Vortex, and back of the spokes, and also do the faces.
American GLobal
Whether our clients’ vehicles require a ton of work or not much, we are glad to always make it look as good as possible. For this task, we used an Americana Global (owned by Ceramic Pro) yellow heavy-cut foam pad paired with our Flex cordless polishers and 3D One. 3D One is a hybrid compound/polish that can be used on different types of pads to achieve different results. In many cases, a yellow foam pad with a heavy compound could leave some micro-scratching that then needs to be removed by polish. Paint types and properties, as well as pad/material combinations, present different challenges and results. In this instance, the yellow pad with 3D One did not leave behind any scratches. It was the perfect combination.
Sometimes, when we do paint correction and enhancement, the initial panel takes a longer time as we try various pad/polish/compound combinations. We do this because our intent is always to use the least aggressive method possible to correct the vehicle’s issues. Sometimes each panel requires a slightly different approach. In this case, our first inclination was the correct one.

The scuffs that were present were eliminated immediately and we were able to bring out the shine of even better than the day the client received it from the dealer.

About our ceramic coating offerings:
SB3 Coatings (sb3coating.com) are great coatings. They are similar to other offerings we have had in the past. You may be more familiar with other brands’ offerings. Here is a quick reference to help you understand our transition.
– The SB3 Coatings Solo is similar to Ceramic Pro Sport. (although SB3 Solo has a one-year warranty whereas Ceramic Pro Sport has a six-month warranty)
– SB3 Coatings Omega is similar to Ceramic Pro Bronze (Ceramic Pro Top Coat) two year coating
– The SB3 Coatings Thirty3 is a three-year ceramic coating. Which is a warranty period we have not had in the past.
– SB3 Coatings Alpha is a five-year coating, similar to the Ceramic Pro Silver (five-year) package, which uses Ceramic Pro 9H (one layer) and Ceramic Pro Top Coat (one layer). SB3 Coatings Alpha utilizes a single coating system which helps us get your vehicle back to you faster without sacrificing quality.
– The SB3 Coatings Trinity is a seven-year coating, which we did not offer previously with Ceramic Pro.
– SB3 Coatings Vortex is a two-year ceramic coating similar to Ceramic Pro Wheel & Caliper or Ceramic Pro 9H (when used on wheels).
– The SB3 Coatings Optic is a one-year ceramic coating similar to Ceramic Pro Glass. It is used on your windshield/glass surfaces.
Additionally, we have access to many brands of ceramic coatings. We always choose what is best for the client in their particular situation.
