Rock chip prevention - C8 Corvette PPF track package in Copperas Cove/Killeen/Harker Heights
You are probably thinking we have installed rock chip prevention on C8 Corvette Stingrays in Rapid Blue over and over and we are just releasing different videos to trick you! This is not the case! We do so much rock chip prevention on C8 Corvettes, we are bound to do multiple Rapid Blue with .R and Jake Skull graphics!
We have several options when you have vinyl graphics and we are installing rock chip protection on your car. Something to understand about PPF and rock chip prevention on your 2023 C8 Corvette with graphics (or anyone with racing stripes) – clear bra/PPF is approximately 3x as thick as vinyl.
So PPF does not conform to raised edges of vinyl without leaving a small air gap.
Sometimes, we can press the gap down, but there’s no promise that it will stay.
1/ Remove the graphic and replace it later. This eliminates all chances of air gap, makes the installation look as clean as possible – but leaves the vinyl exposed to rock chips. When talking about replacing vinyl after rock chip prevention on a 2023 C8 Corvette, the black vinyl on the hood is $495 from the dealership.
2/ Cut around the graphic by hand. This can typically be done pretty cleanly, but it IS still cut by hand. The benefit is, the graphic doesn’t need to be removed, costing you the $495 (some racing stripes can be upwards of $1500 from dealers). However, the vinyl is exposed and it’s possible to collect dirt in the gap between the PPF and vinyl.
3/ Go over the graphic with PPF. This protects the vinyl, but causes the air gap. Also, some graphics cannot be covered at all because they’re slightly textured, and also, matte or satin graphics will now be glossier. In this case, the owner actually liked the changed look, so this is the option he chose. Installing rock chip prevention on this 2023 C8 Corvette ensures their paint will remain pristine for years to come!
