This uniquely-colored BMW X4 in Brooklyn Gray was part of the two-vehicle package we did for husband/wife Killeen residents, where we installed a partial full body on the husband’s BMW 540, and we did a full front (mirrors, fenders, hood, and bumper) on this BMW X4, and then installed a five-year SB3 Alpha ceramic coating (similar in longevity and performance to a Ceramic Pro Silver Package).


The client was incredibly concerned about rock chips on her far away commute from Killeen to Austin, daily. She had already received a few rock chips, and was borderline between being able to install the clear bra/paint protection film and not being able to (as we discuss in our frequently asked questions section – at a certain point, the rock chips become too much and the clear bra/PPF will have pockets of air where the chips are, and look worse).


We ended up filling in many of the smaller chips with a crayon that was similar in color to the Brooklyn Gray, which allows the hole to be slightly filled (covering up the primer underneath), without creating the raised bump that you might typically get by fixing rock chips (that also creates an air pocket that looks bad under the clear bra/paint protection film).


Clear Bra

Overall, this installation of clear bra came out amazing, with just a minor tweak.


We are not always perfect, and sometimes, as we have discussed in other blog articles and frequently asked questions, no installation is flawless. However, in this case, the BMW X4 driver mirror continued to lift up on the edge. We decided to redo both mirrors to ensure the client was happy.


Mirror clear bra installations can be more difficult to lay down. As the tension required to wrap an 8mil thick paint protection film without wrinkles is high. This makes it the most commonly returned item.


Why are we telling everyone about an imperfect clear bra/paint protection film/PPF installation? 


Mainly because of expectation management. A typical clear bra/paint protection film installation has a two-week follow-up period where we check for issues like this. We addressed all of the client’s concerns, and as you can see from our reviews, she was totally satisfied! We try very hard to ensure this never comes up where clear bra lifts, and many shops make every attempt to hide any imperfection in their clear bra/PPF installations, especially online, where everyone is afraid to post issues. 


The important takeaway from this installation is that after voicing some concerns to us, we rushed to ensure they were taken care of and satisfied. These situations are NOT the normal with clear bra/paint protection film installations, but it’s important to understand that NO business can PREVENT problems – they happen. Each business is defined by how they handle issues.

2022 BMW X4 Full Front Clear Bra and Ceramic Coating
